So, you decided to venture a little further into this apparition I call you! And I am really glad you did. Until we can develop the courage to question all that we have been taught, we will never be able to see beyond the butts of the sheep in front of us. Sorry about that image, butt it is where our eyes are facing.
We are told by philosophers, religious leaders, and so-called experts that you must follow your path. You will never go wrong if you stay true to your path. We’ve never questioned this and we accepted it as truth. So, we endeavor to walk our path and we have no idea what it means to walk our path. We see inspirational pictures showing someone walking on a path leading to some distant destination that’s over the horizon somewhere, insinuating this is how it is done.
Well, imagine if you will, a pristine grassy meadow. Untouched and untrampled.
Or, perhaps a local park after a winter storm as laid down a new blanket of snow.
Or my favorite, a pristine beach at the water's edge.
As you can see, there are no paths, there are no footprints. That’s because you create your path with every step you take. And with every decision you make, you change your path. If you are following a path that is laid out before you, then you are walking on someone else’s path, not your own. This is the first lesson on your journey. There is no path until you take your first step.
You must also remember as you move from one step to the next your footprint is washed away leaving no trace. This is a great reminder that your past no longer exists, therefore, there is no reason to dwell on the past creating all the guilt you feel. Your next footprint doesn't occur until you take your next step. Your future exists only as you create it, therefore, there is no reason to worry about tomorrow as tomorrow exists only when you take your next step. That leaves your present position. Your life exists between each step you take, therefore, you live in the present (the now) and nowhere else. You can't see this because you have been taught to dwell in the past and worry about the future. You were never taught to live in the now.
You must also understand, where you place your foot to take that first step, and every ensuing step thereafter do not have to be predetermined as you were taught, and will require you to make your own decisions. Up to now the decisions you make are guided by, yup, you guessed it, your learnings. This is why it is so important to unlearn what we have been taught, and relearn who we are so the decisions you make in creating your path, will be just that, your decisions, and not what you have been taught to do which is allowing someone else to decide for you.
So, are you ready to take Your First Step? Then let’s go!
